Students express creativity through annual choreography showcase

On Jan. 6, students performed STUCHO, an annual production where students create original, complex routines to a wide variety of songs and recruit dancers to bring their pieces to life.
Along with choreography, lighting design was entirely student-run. Junior Diane Guo set the lights for senior Catherine Lu’s piece Already Gone, allowing the audience to only see the dancers’ silhouettes at times, creating a dramatic effect.

Student Choreography Showcase returns to in-person format, features original dances

On Jan. 7, students and parents gathered to watch the annual Student Choreography Showcase. Over the past year, dance students took improv classes and rehearsed for weeks to prepare for the almost entirely student-driven production.

Greek Festival showcases traditional dances, food

The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church hosted the 54th Houston Greek Festival from Oct. 14 to Oct. 17. The event offered Houstonians the opportunity to try Greek foods and watch traditional dances.
To give choreographers more time to hone their dances and reduce dancers’ workload at the end of the first semester, STUCHO will take place on Jan. 17 rather than the middle of December. As the performance date approaches, Gidi’s choreographers are scheduling more rehearsals to finalize details.
