On Oct. 25, the field hockey team celebrated their five seniors before a game against the Episcopal Knights.

The seniors walked with their parents across Finnegan Field as assistant coach Gordon Center announced their names. Both Audrey Ledbetter and Isabel Windham received special recognition for their four years on the varsity team. The seniors were greeted with flowers and gifts presented by the juniors on the team.

“The seniors are awesome and made this season so much fun, so being able to recognize them was a great way to show our appreciation,” sophomore Kennedy Sholeen said.

Head coach Craig Chambers appreciates the seniors’ leadership this season.

“Team success requires unity, and I think this senior class has done an excellent job of bringing together a lot of individual talent into a cohesive unit,” Chambers said.

This year, there are only five seniors on the team, which is fewer than in years past.

“Every senior class is different and has its own personality,” Chambers said. “This field hockey Class of 2018 is smaller than most, and has been very tight knit.”

The Mavericks took a dominant 6-0 victory over the Knights. This marks the team’s third victory against the Knights this season.

On Nov. 2, field hockey will play a key game against Kinkaid. The Mavericks have played Kinkaid twice this season, earning themselves two victories. The counter game will determine the Mavericks’ seed going into the SPC tournament. If the Mavericks beat the Falcons, they will take the first place seed in South Zone.
