ISAS Spotlight: Samuel Hsieh

Amy Liu, Staff Writer

Freshman Samuel Hsieh is the only clarinet player for the All Saints Tyler band from Tyler, Texas. He played “Canzonetta” by Gabriel Pierné for Solo and Ensemble at ISAS.

“I see great potential in his musical expression,” said adjudicator Ema Armenious. “He is a true musician.”

He has ranked superior in state for clarinet in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS).

“In the future, I’m really hoping to make all-state band for ATSSB (Association of Texas Small School Bands), though it’s a challenging goal,” said Hsieh.

Besides studying clarinet for 3 years with a private teacher, Hsieh has experience in vocals and theater.

“I especially like to see the joy of others hearing and feeling the music I play,” said Hsieh. “ISAS has been a chance for me to explore and observe different talents of many high schools.”
