From planning activities like flag football on the Great Lawn to spinning cotton candy every Day 3, the seven SAC Prefects operate the ins and outs of student life.
“Each one of our prefects are very unique and special in their own way,” Head Prefect Nathan Kim said. “They all do different things, play different sports and participate in different clubs . It is a perfect blend.”
This year’s prefect team is full of personality, unique tastes and bucket list goals. Learn more about prefects Nathan Kim, Cesar Adrogué, Kenzie Chu, Eshna Das and Horatio Wilcox below.
SAC’s got your back
Nathan Kim
Kim’s go-to meal is jjajangmyeon, a Korean-Chinese noodle dish with black bean paste and pork. He’s also loyal to Tex-Mex cuisine. While he admits he’s not a huge traveler, his dream vacation is a Texas-style “barbecue pilgrimage” with friends, trying different BBQ spots across the state.
Kim’s bucket list is more founded: getting a job he finds fulfilling. Ultimately, he dreams of becoming a federal district judge. His music taste leans toward indie rock, while his favorite school holiday is Spirit Week because of the energy it brings to campus.
Kim loves horror movies, especially Shutter Island (which he insists you watch twice in a row) and The Shining . He calls himself a night owl, and he admits to setting up to ten alarms just to get out of bed in the morning. His favorite season is winter (even when “cold” means 73 degrees in Houston).
As Head Prefect, Kim also shares how excited he is about the Student Affairs Council’s new initiatives, like making Monday morning announcements and increasing club collaboration.
“It’s all about unifying the student body, not just through random events, but by highlighting the incredible ideas already happening in our community,” Kim said.
César Adrogué
For Adrogué, food is all about family—his favorite meal is steak with his grandmother’s rice. His dream destinations are Greece and Egypt, places full of history and adventure, and his bucket list includes skydiving.
Adrogué enjoys country music and watching The Prestige , one of his all-time cherished films. His favorite school holiday is Christmas Break, and his favorite season is fall, when the weather is just right and the trees look their best.
He is a night person, and when it comes to choosing between the mountains, the beach or the city, Adrogué says the mountains every time.
Along with being a prefect, Adrogué is also captain of the soccer team.
“I love my sport,” Adrogué said. “ I love playing soccer, watching it and just hanging out with my friends.”
Adrogu é uses his passion for sports to come up with fun, SAC-sponsored events.
“I want to incorporate more house competitions and football games this year,” Adrogu é said.
Kenzie Chu
Chu is a girl of duality, as she loves strawberry parfaits with granola as much as stir-fried Chinese green beans; one sweet and one savory item. If she could go anywhere, she would go to Japan, where she loves exploring street markets. She wants to attend culinary school to further her passion for cooking and baking.
Her music taste includes folk and acoustic artists like Hozier, Lord Huron and Noah Kahan, along with a bit of alternative-pop. Instead of a traditional holiday, her favorite school celebration is Ms. Mulligan’s Birthday!
Chu is a fan of rom-coms, but she also enjoys thought-provoking shows like Severance and The Queen’s Gambit . Winter is her favorite season, thanks to cozy Christmas traditions and holiday baking.
She hopes to become either a pediatrician or a women’s health specialist. She is “definitely a night person,”and loves the energy of big cities. The beach is not her favorite—she insists it’s overrated.
Chu is the captain of the cheer team this year, further expanding her leadership to sports. As she takes more initiative and finds a passion within her to explore what she can do, she also wants to bring back the Stall Street Journal.
“I did it a lot my sophomore year, but then I stopped,” Chu said. “I want to bring it back because I loved doing it and I know lots of people missed having it.”
Eshna Das
For Das, sushi tops the list of favorite foods. When it comes to traveling, her dream trip would start in London before heading to Italy for island-hopping along the coast. At the top of her bucket list right now is getting into college.
Her music taste leans pop, with Noah Kahan as her favorite artist. She loves rom-coms, and when it comes to movies, her all-time favorite is Tangled . Christmas is her favorite school holiday, while summer is her favorite season—mostly because there’s no school.
And if she had to choose between the mountains, city, or beach, she would pick the beach every time for the sunlight and swimming.
Horatio Wilcox
Horatio Wilcox loves Mexican, Italian and Indian food. His dream vacation is an African safari, but his biggest dream is a little closer to home: being remembered as the “greatest prefect ever.”
Music-wise, he’s into electronic dance music and “Afro house,” while in movies, he prefers comedies, with his all-time favorite being Borat . Horatio’s favorite season is fall, when the weather cools down and the trees turn brilliant colors.
His dream job is to be an international airline pilot, but with a twist: he’d prefer to fly only once a month so he can enjoy the destinations he visits. Unlike most of his fellow prefects, Wilcox is a morning person thanks to cross-country training. If given the choice, he’d head for the mountains, where he finds peace and beauty.
Wilcox is captain of the cross-country team this year, and wants to have more grade vs. grade games. “I also think new games such as dodgeball would be fun,” Wilcox said.
Valentina Doss and Evan Nanna also serve as prefects but are not featured in this article.
